September 6th, is Col. Samuel McDowell Tate's Birthday.
We annually set aside that day and the nearest Saturday to commemorate his service to North Carolina, The C.S.A. and the U.S.A. as businessman, soldier, elected and appointed public servant. Time and place of this event will be posted soon. Burke County was most fortunate to have him, without whom, there would be no state hospital or school for hearing impaired citizens and no railroad through Burke.
